Tonga rugby league in disarray

From Checkpoint, 6:24 pm on 27 September 2019

The secretary of Tonga's suspended rugby league board says today's election of a new Prime Minister may bring a very public dispute to a resolution.

The acting prime minister had urged the Rugby League International Federation to suspend the board, after a public falling out with coach Kristian Woolf.

That plunged the national team into disarray, with senior players threatening to boycott upcoming test matches unless Woolf was reinstated.

William Edwards says the acting PM should never have got involved, and he hopes the new PM will reinstate him and allow a new coach to take Mate Ma'a Tonga forward.
