Unfriendly fire in Operation Burnham hearing

From Checkpoint, 6:17 pm on 15 October 2019

The way the Defence Force held records relating to Operation Burnham has been under scrutiny at today's public hearing.

The Inquiry is investigating allegations the Defence Force covered up civilian deaths during the operation in Afghanistan in 2010.

But it was suspended last month when it was revealed a report stating it was possible civilians had been killed during Burnham had been left to languish in a Defence Force safe since 2011.

NZDF had held the line for years it was unlikely anyone had died.

Laura Dooney was at the hearing.
