The two women who tested positive for Covid-19 had been granted an exemption to travel to Wellington after the death of one of their parents.
The Health Minister told Checkpoint he is not happy the women left their mandatory isolation in Auckland to drive to Wellington before being tested first.
But with global cases of Covid-19 hitting eight million, Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield says it is not surprising New Zealand's virus-free streak has been broken.
He is confident the right systems are in place to ensure any further spread is contained.
