Pressure continues on Shaw over green school funding

From Checkpoint, 6:08 pm on 2 September 2020

The pressure on Greens co-leader shows no sign of waning, after more questions today about him threatening to block other projects as part of his support for the Taranaki Green School.

James Shaw is battling to restore his political credibility and trust with the party base after being chief cheerleader for the $11.7m funding approval that has enraged Green supporters, school principals and unions.

As part of its Covid-19 response the government set up a $3 billion fund for 'shovel ready' projects to create jobs with the list eventually whittled down to 150.

In early August Mr Shaw emailed other ministers saying he'd withhold approval unless the Green School proposal got across the line.

As RNZ political editor Jane Patterson reports, whilst Mr Shaw himself has gone to ground today, National leader Judith Collins is calling for his resignation.
