An economist is predicting the rise of generation rent as house prices reach record levels.
The latest figures from the monthly house price index shows house prices have increased by almost 20 percent on the same time last year.
In Auckland, the average price of a house has now reached $1 million for the first time.
And prices have also risen sharply in other regions, to the dismay of first home buyers.
