Wellington Covid-19 scare: No new cases but risk remains

From Checkpoint, 5:18 pm on 25 June 2021

There has been another day without new cases of Covid-19 in the Wellington community.

The news seems too good to be true, given the packed itinerary of the Australian tourist who spent the weekend in Wellington.

He flitted between restaurants and cafes, a packed sports bar, a busy art exhibit at the national museum - and then tested positive for the virus on his return to Sydney.

It is assumed - though not confirmed - he was carrying the highly infectious Delta variant of Covid-19 - currently circulating in New South Wales.

Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins says so far there are no signs the man infected anyone else in Wellington.
