Aucklanders may need to pay higher rates to deal with the financial trouble the council is facing.
Last year Auckland council agreed to cap annual rates rises at three-and-a-half percent for the next ten years.
But today's pre-election report warns the council's coffers are not looking good - what's being spent is increasing at a faster rate than what's coming in.
