Calls for cats terrorising native wildlife to be restricted

Tasman council is considering a new by-law that would mean all domestic cats have to be desexed, microchipped and on a national register by the time they are six months old.The region's existing cat population would get until 2027 to comply. But some environmentalists say cats are literally gutting the bird population and restrictions need to go even further.
