Just released, Henrietta Bollinger’s debut essay collection, Articulations published by Tender Press speaks to their experiences as queer, disabled and as a twin..
Refusing to be defined by other people’s perceptions, the Pōneke writer, playwright, activist, and disability rights advocate Henrietta is a trailblazer in what has been termed internationally as Crip Lit or Crip Culture. Art as a way of taking back power, defining relationships on one’s own terms.
Bollinger’s first play, debuting way back in 2012 was entitled A Cripple Talks about Anatomy. Their last was presented in development at BATS Theatre earlier this year. They also recently co-wrote Working Together: Accessibility in Aotearoa theatre, published by Playmarket.
Referencing queer icons from the Topp Twins to Anika Moa, the new book Articulations is smart, funny and unflinchingly honest in talking about everything from first crushes and first periods to parliamentary reform. Ultimately, it asks everyone to take better care of each other in our difference.
