Woburn Masonic retirement village workers on strike
Frustrated retirement village carers are taking to the picket line today to protest over what they say are zero-hour contracts. The workers at Woburn Masonic Village, in Lower Hutt, want certainty over their shifts. But the company is demanding they be available 24/7 in case of roster changes. A worker and Etu delegate, Sela Mulitalo, told our reporter, Jonathan Mitchell, half her shifts are guaranteed hours - but she doesn't know about the rest. That made her feel like she was on a zero-hour contract - even though they are illegal.
