Underwater coral sounds to attract fish back to stressed reefs

From First Up, 5:23 am on 18 December 2019

That's the sound of a healthy coral reef. But many these days don't sound like that. Coral reefs across the world are suffering. Years of warmer temperatures and environmental stress has driven away fish and caused significant damage. Scientists from the UK and Australia are now trying a new way to tempt fish back to these environments, using underwater speakers that play noises of a healthy reef. And it's been successful. Tim Gordon from the University of Exeter is the lead author of the study. He spoke to First Up producer Lydia Batham from Lizard Island where he has been monitoring the project.
