SAFE concerned by award winner's historic tweets
The New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards Trust is investigating historical tweets posted by a recent winner. Trust chair, Natasha Tere, says it has been made aware of the comments from 2020 Share Farmer of the Year, Nick Bertram and is now investigating the situation. She says entrants are judged on information presented and on the farming practices the person follows currently and judges did not look for and were not aware of historical social media comments. It comes after animal rights group, SAFE, complained that Mr Bertram's comments on social media were disrespectful towards animals. Louise Ternouth spoke to CEO of Safe Debra Ashton, starting with its initial reaction to the comments.
