Happy 80th Birthday to the de Havilland Mosquito
Today marks the 80th anniversary of the first flight of an iconic Second World War aircraft.. The very first de Havilland Mosquito took to the air on this day in 1940. And thanks to a farmer from Mapua, New Zealand finds itself at the centre of the Mosquito universe. John Smith was a visionary collector who took the opportunity to buy one of the last remaining examples back in the 1950s before it could be scrapped, and it's now being done up by a crack team of volunteers at the Omaka airfield. Producer Jeremy Parkinson asked conservation project manager Alistair Marshall a little bit about the history of the Mosquito aircraft on its 80th birthday.
