Auckland teen gets call up for White Ferns

From First Up, 5:35 am on 11 February 2021

Auckland teenager Fran Jonas was doing typically teenage things when she got a rather untypical phone call this week. The 16-year-old spin bowler was yesterday named for the first time in the New Zealand women's cricket team. Jonas - who was driving around with a friend when she got the good news, and promptly celebrated with a Cookies and Cream ice cream - is set to make her White Ferns debut in their upcoming one-day series against England. New Zealand captain Sophie Devine told Clay Wilson the teenager's introduction to the international arena will be helped by the fact star all-rounder Amelia Kerr also started her White Ferns career as a 16-year-old.
