One of Charles Goldie's favourite works sells for $1.8m
A painting considered to be one of the finest by revered New Zealand artist Charles Goldie fetched $1.8m at an art auction in Auckland last night. The painting of chief Kamariera Te Hau-Takiri Wharepapa was one of Goldie's personal favourites and considered to be among his finest works. It was sold at Auckland's International Art Centre last night in an auction where works by Frances Hodgkins, Peter Siddell, Cedric Morris, Toss Wollaston and Ralph Hotere also went under the hammer.
