Mangawhai farmer saves house and cows after record rain

A farmer has described how several of his cows swam for their lives after 377mm of rainfall fell in the Northland town of Mangawhai Rodger Bennett has been farming in Hakaru, a settlement between Mangawhai and Kaiwaka, for 35 years. His local rain guage recorded 377mm of rain from midday on Friday, until 9pm with a whopping 280mm falling in just three hours. Rodger told our reporter Leonard Powell how he saved his herd and his house.
