Resident calls on council to maintain streams on private land

Hundreds of West Auckland properties have been been red or yellow strickered after being hammered by the anniversary floods and Cyclone Gabrielle. Several of these homes were inundanted after local streams burst their banks. Now, residents are asking if Auckland Council could have done a better job of maintaining the waterways. But, council says where a stream runs through private property, upkeep is the owner's responsibility It comes as Auckland's water operator Watercare announced this morning that prices will increase by 9.5 per cent from July. Our producer Mahvash Ikram spoke to Phil Thomas whose home has a stream running behind it and was yellow stickered after the recent deluge.
