Communtiy Network Waiheke send letter to government

Waiheke locals say despite being part of Auckland, they feel left behind especially when it comes to social housing. While the island has become known for its Wineries and Wealthy visitors, it also has the highest rate of homelessness per capita in Auckland. The group Community Network Waiheke have sent a letter to ministers imploring them to help out with social housing on the Island. Long time residents who rent, have been forced off the island, and finding places to stay has become considerably more difficult for seasonal workers. Figures show more than a third of houses on Waiheke sit empty as Holiday Homes.
