10:18 Tairāwhiti iwi relieved Rhythm and Vines postponed
This evening festival organisers announced Rhythm and Vines would be postponed until Easter weekend 2022. This came after four Tairāwhiti iwi met with festival organisers and urged them to cancel the event over concerns of the regions dangerously low vaccination rates. Tairāwhiti currently has the second lowest fully-vaccinated rate with only 77% fully vaccinated which prompted locals to also start a petition to cancel the festival which gained over 3,600 signatures.
10:25 Woman sues doctor over 'wrongful conception'
a 20-year-old woman in the UK has successfully sued her mother's doctor for millions in damages over the claim that she should have never been born. The star showjumper accused Dr Philip Mitchell of failing to inform her mother to take folic acid supplements prior and throughout her pregnancy. Evie Toombes suffers from Spina Bifida which can be prevented by taking folic acid supplements. Feature Story News correspondent Olly Barratt explains the story further.
10:44 Native bilbies implanted with poison for feral cats
Bilbies are one of Australia's most iconic native animals but they're on the verge of extinction due to an abundance of feral cats preying upon them. In a bid to find a solution, University of South Australia PHD Candidate Kyle Brewer developed Population Protecting Implants (PPI) which is a poisonous implant fitted into the bilbies. 30 bilbies at Arid Recovery have had the small rice-sized implant injected under their skin. They are lethal to feral cats but not to bilbies due to a specialised coating, and the marsupials' natural resistance to the toxin. Developer Kyle Brewer explains how he came up with the idea.
