Te Paati Māori wants a whānau ora approach to get the 210 people who will lose their jobs at the Whakatāne Mill into other work immediately.
The mill has decided to proceed to close its doors after last month's proposed closure.
Meetings with stakeholders, the community and MP's have taken place to work toward a solution for both the mill and its workers.
The MP for Waiariki, Rawiri Waititi, has been at those meetings and spoke to Māni Dunlop.
