Consequences of three decades of housing commodification

From Midday Report, 12:15 pm on 4 August 2021

New research explores the consequences of the growing financialisation, or commodification, of houses over the last three decades. That comes as the government admits the First Home Grants aren't doing their job, because the caps are not linked to prices. Housing Minister Megan Woods says work is underway on indexation. Now, for the first time, the Population Association has published a special journal drawing together various threads impacting people's living circumstances for the first time in decades. The special edition of the journal was co-edited by housing researcher Kay Saville-Smith. She joins Māni Dunlop on Midday Report.
