Māori youth offending rates six times higher than non-Māori

Despite falling numbers of youth offenders, Māori are still disproportionately represented in the figures. 

It comes as a new report reveals the number of youth offenders has fallen by more than 60 percent in the last ten years. 

The number of Māori youth offenders halved between 2017 and 2021. 

However disparities remain, with offending rates for Māori being six times higher than non-Māori.
