Russia crackdown on dissent includes slowing the Internet

A Moscow court has found Meta platforms Facebook and Instagram guilty of "extremist activity" -- they're now banned from operating in Russia.

It comes amid a major crackdown on dissent by Russians online and in the streets.

Meanwhile, Australian researchers have found Russia's government is further frustrating information flows by slowing Internet speeds.

Associate Professor of Economics and the Director of the IP Observatory at Monash University Simon Angus spoke to Māni Dunlop about Russia's online slowdown.
