Benefit appointments move to phone calls, sanctions possible

Thousands of young people on the job seeker benefit will now meet with a case manager over the phone, but may face sanctions if they miss the call without a good reason. The new over-the-phone service will mean an extra 4000 people will be able to have case management support. It's part of a wider government effort to reduce the number of New Zealanders on the job seeker benefit by 50,000 in the next six years.
