NIWA warns storm will bring destructive wind and heavy rain

Torrential rain and potential destructive winds of up to 150 kilometres an hour will arrive in the north today. States of emergency are already in place in Bay of Plenty and Thames-Coromandel, and holiday makers are asked to stay away from the Coromandel Peninsula.
