MetService says the former cyclone Gita is running late but it remains on course to bring heavy rain, gales and heavy seas. Central areas are in for a stormy day, with widespread flooding likely and winds of up to 150 km/h. West Coast will bear the brunt of the storm. All schools in the Buller and Grey district are closed today and tomorrow. RNZ reporter Charlie Dreaver is in Granity, north of Westport.
