Councils says buildings with Grenfell-style panels are safe
Auckland and Wellington city councils have been quick to reassure people that its safe to live and work in dozens of buildings with similar cladding to that of the deadly Grenfell Tower. Tomorrow is the first anniversary of the massive fire which ripped through the 24-storey tower block in London killing more than 70 people. The Auckland Council has confirmed at least 25 buildings use the same highly combustible cladding and Christchurch has 29 buildings with the cladding. In Wellington 18 buildings have been identified as needing a fire engineer assessment. RNZ reporter Phil Pennington has done months of reporting on the risks here.
