National calls for Immigration Minister's resignation
The National Party's calling for the Immigration Minister's resignation over what they say is yet another appalling display of incompetence. Iain Lees-Galloway has make a complete u-turn on his decision, announcing on Wednesday he would be sending the Czech kickboxer and drug smuggler Karel Sroubek home, after deferring his deportation. He made the decision on convictions Sroubek had racked up in the Czech Republic - which he already knew about - and some extra information he says he didn't have before. But Mr Lees-Galloway won't say what that new information is in case the decision's appealed. National's immigration spokesperson Michael Woodhouse spoke to RNZ political reporter Gia Garrick in sheer disbelief, saying the Minister initially ignored the most relevant information in the case.
