Some Christchurch building firms are so desperate for work they are cutting their margins to the point where they're not making any money. That may come as a surprise to people looking for a builder in other parts of the country, where nation-wide there is a construction shortage. But with the rebuild work almost over and a decline in the numbers of building consents, some builders in Canterbury have been left twiddling their thumbs.
