Tahr culling benefits heli-hunters most - Forest & Bird

The shooting of 10,000 Himalayan tahr from the Southern Alps gets underway this week. The Department of Conservation put the cull on hold last October after a helicopter crash in Wanaka. It says the removal of the tahr is vital to protecting the alpine landscapes of the South Island. But Forest and Bird says the plan breaches the National Parks Act, and does more for wealthy overseas heli-hunters than it does for protecting the environment.
