The National Party is accusing the government of rushing changes in electoral law to advantage the coalition's re-election.
But Justice Minister Andrew Little says the moves will strengthen democracy, allowing voters to enrol on election day, and to vote at more venues, including supermarkets and malls.
He told Morning Report earlier that Nick Smith was slowing the process down in Select Committee.
