The owner of the stolen van that was used in a fatal hit and run accident is in disbelief.
Flooring consultant Renee Elizabeth was working at a relative's property in New Brighton when she heard someone hop into her van.
Thinking it was her boss, she called out to him only to realise it was a stranger.
She told RNZ Christchurch reporter Nicholas Pointon what happened next.
