The jury in the trial of a man accused of murdering his former girlfriend's daughter resumes its deliberations this morning.
Two-year-old Ariah Roberts died from a brain injury while in the care of Aaron Archer - who was living with the child and her mother at the time.
The Crown says he assaulted the girl while her mother popped out to a nearby shop.
The defence says the pair were playing when the girl hit her head.
Corin Dann spoke to RNZ court reporter Anneke Smith who has been covering the trial.
