More than 26 million people from California to Arizona are on edge as firefighters deal with blazes burning in California's wine country and in the Los Angeles area.
More than 5,000 people, almost 600 fire engines, 27 helicopters and 67 bulldozers are still fighting the blaze.
Firefighters have been able to contain 30 percent of the fire as of just before 8am on Thursday morning.
That's up from 12 hours, ago when they had 15 percent of the blaze contained.
California correspondent Rachel Sliverman speaks to Susie Ferguson about the fires.
