The Auckland Pasifika community say it's heartbreaking to see a growing trend of scammers targeting their own people.
Netsafe reports 33 million dollars lost in online scams last year.
That figure was up by more than 10 million dollars from 2017 and Netsafe says it believes unreported losses would take those figures much higher.
Mary Aue, who runs the online community noticeboard Coconut Wireless, says there's a whole range of scams around, from fake investments to dodgy shares and dubious cryptocurrency trading deals.
She spoke to Jessie Chiang.
