The Minister in Charge of Managed Isolation, Megan Woods, says the escape of a family of five from a Hamilton hotel was not a failing on the part of the isolation system.
A family of five fled a managed isolation facility in the hope of attending the funeral of the children's father and were caught soon afterwards.
The family, bar a 12-year-old, have since been charged with breaching the Coronavirus Health Act notice.
They will now miss the burial but will be able to see it by video link.
Woods says 30,000 people have successfully passed through isolation facilities but they will review how this latest escape happened.
