East Coast swings to Labour after Tolley retirement
It wasn't just city seats going red, provincial voters were swinging left too. Labour winning back the East Coast seat for the first time in 16 years. The electorate - which includes Gisborne, Tolaga Bay, Opotiki and Whakatane - has been held by National MP Anne Tolley since 2005. But her retirement from politics left an opening - an opportunity Labour's Kiritapu Allan grabbed with both hands, taking the win by 4,600 votes.
