A pop-up testing centre will open for border workers at Port Taranaki today after a new case of Covid-19 in the community.
Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield revealed the case yesterday - an Auckland man who travelled to the district for work at the port last Tuesday and Wednesday.
Health authorities say the risk of community transmission is "very low" because the man had minimal interaction with others while in New Plymouth.
Genomic testing is due to begin to try to identify the source of his infection.
