Covid-19: Aucklanders have plenty of access to testing on weekends - Ashley Bloomfield

From Morning Report, 7:16 am on 20 October 2020

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield says Aucklanders do still have access to testing for Covid-19 over the weekend even though none of the city's community testing centres are open outside the working week.

There are six centres operating across the week and none of them are open over the weekend, leaving people needing a test to go via a GP, which could also be operating at reduced hours or not open.

Dr Bloomfield said at that point people should go to one of nearly two dozen after hours clinics in the region.

"There are 21 urgent care clinics around the Auckland region and there is always access to testing, including on the weekends," he told Morning Report.

Dr Bloomfield said the Ministry of Health would work with the DHBs and regional public health to make sure the information on where people can get tested over the weekend is very clear.

Auckland Regional Public Health Service's online list of those clinics shows only nine of them are available for testing at the weekend and of those only two offer around-the-clock testing.
