Government agencies are encouraging every foreign student in the country to stay here for the summer.
The campaign by Education New Zealand and other organisations is part tourism promotion and part pastoral care for young people stuck far from home.
There are more than 40,000 foreign students in the country and those who are part-way through their studies cannot leave for fear they won't be able to return.
