Portable cabins could be used to house hundreds of people left homeless by flooding and slips in Napier.
Around 100 homes were left uninhabitable after last Monday's storm, leaving 173 people living in emergency accommodation at a camp ground and at motels.
Many more are staying with friends and family.
With only a handful of properties available to rent, the government says it's considering all options to house those affected longer-term.
