NZer associated with Islamic State headed home

From Morning Report, 8:22 am on 27 May 2021

A New Zealander who is associated with terror group Islamic State will return to New Zealand but under heavy restrictions and monitoring.

Their name and any details on them are suppressed.

They will be under a one-year interim control order, the first time such an order has been used under the Terrorism Suppression Act.

Amnesty New Zealand says a criminal trial is more appropriate than the measures imposed here.

Annaliese Johnston from the human rights organisation spoke to Susie Ferguson.
