Pyschologist on why Scott Dixon is so good

From Morning Report, 8:41 am on 28 May 2021

An American clinical psychologist believes he has unearthed what makes New Zealand driver Scott Dixon so successful.

Dixon is among the greatest drivers in IndyCar history, having racked up more than 50 career race wins and snared six series titles.

He'll start in pole position at this weekend's Indy 500, the biggest race on the calendar.

Dr Ken Carter, a professor of psychology at Oxford College in Atlanta, sat down with Dixon as part of an NBC series Mind of a Motorhead.

He identifed the personality traits which he says translate into success in a sport where danger is ever-present.

Dr Carter spoke to Susie Ferguson.
