Sanford unable to shift stock due to shipping constraints

The country's biggest seafood company has a significant amount of stock that has been sold - but it can't shift - due to shipping constraints.

Exporters are facing a crisis getting their products to market and with cool storage facilities full to the brim they're running out of options.

Some big shipping lines are no longer taking forward freight bookings between Australia and New Zealand, abandoning relatively small and remote routes in favour of more profitable ones between China, Europe and the United States.

Sanford chief executive Peter Reidie spoke to Guyon Espiner.
