The Minister for Pacific Peoples Aupito William Sio wiped away tears yesterday when announcing his government will officially apologise for the Dawn Raids of the mid-1970s.
The raids disproportionately targeted people of Pasifika heritage who were suspected of overstaying their visas.
Minister Sio revealed his family was subjected to a dawn raid, describing the helplessness felt at the time by his father.
He spoke to Susie Ferguson.
