Mandatory vaccinations being considered for schools

From Morning Report, 8:18 am on 6 October 2021

Mandatory vaccinations are among the options up for consideration before Auckland's schools re-open on October the 18th, after the school holidays.

That date's just a pencil booking for now, pending health advice.

The Education Minister Chris Hipkins says other options being considered over the next week include more frequent testing for unvaccinated teachers and PPE requirements.

The pfizer vaccine is yet to be approved for children under 12, and the Minister says primary schools will have some of the highest concentrations of unvaccinated people.

Auckland Primary Principals' Association president Stephen Lethbridge and Secondary Principals' president Steve Hargreaves spoke to Morning Report's Corin Dann.
