A GP is vowing not to let a lack of a specific vaccination target for Māori slow down efforts to get as many people vaccinated as possible.
The traffic light system announced on Friday set a target for 90 percent of eligible people vaccinated across the population, but there was no set target for Māori.
Papakura Marae Clinic GP Dr Matire Harwood said not setting one for Māori isn't fair.
"It's inequitable, and I think that's been our issue for a while now that a lot of the targets that they've talked about have not included Māori in them."
Dr Harwood was part of team of Maori doctors and community leaders traversed South Auckand to encourage unvaccinated whānau over the weekend.
With the star power of musicians King Kapisi and Che Fu, 200 more vaccines went into arms.
"We're going to do everything we can to make sure Māori are there as well, because we don't want them to be left behind. We don't want them to be at increased risk."
Dr Harwood said focusing on Māori means not taking the foot off the gas when Auckland reaches 90 percent vaccinated.
"We've made a commitment that even if they do say 90 percent across the total Aucklanders, the mark that they want to achieve, we're going to keep going until we've got at least 90 percent Maori."
