London people's tribunal rules against China

From Morning Report, 8:20 am on 10 December 2021

In London, a people's tribunal has ruled that China is committing genocide against the Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities through policies such as forced sterilisations.

The Uyghur Tribunal had received testimony from dozens of victims and China experts over two hearings in June and September.

It made its ruling overnight, local time.

The panel found the People's Republic of China guilty of genocide over the atrocities it is alleged to have committed in Xinjiang province, where hundreds of thousands of Muslims have been detained in mass internment camps since 2017.

Human Rights Watch China director Sophie Richardson spoke to Susie Ferguson.
