A Masterton building owner is furious at the outcome of a five-year-long inquiry into a structural engineer who approved designs for buildings that were prone to earthquakes.
Engineering New Zealand has fined Kevin O'Connor $3500 over five substandard buildings, and ordered him to pay 10 times that in costs, calling him negligent but not incompetent.
The community-owned Masterton Lands Trust spent millions of dollars fixing the buildings and many years suing his now defunct firm, Kevin O'Connor and Associates.
The trust's general manager Andrew Croskery spoke to Susie Ferguson.
