Covid-19: Māori tamariki need vaccine prioritisation - expert

From Morning Report, 7:44 am on 22 December 2021

A leading paediatrician says Māori and other vulnerable tamariki need to be prioritised when their turn comes to get the Covid-19 vaccine.

From January 17, children aged five to 11 will be able to roll up their sleeves for a paediatric dose.

The dose is a third of the strength of the adult one and children will get two shots eight weeks apart.

The vaccine will not be mandatory for children and they will not need vaccine passes.

Ngāti Tuwharetoa paediatrician and Royal Australasian College of Physicians' Indigenous Child Health Working Group chair Dr Danny de Lore spoke to Susie Ferguson.
